Seven years ago, young Keperluan was left with the Baptis Orphanage at the tender age of 5 years, leaving an indelible mark on his life, without the closeness of a warm family upbringing. His family was too poor to raise him and his three younger siblings and decided to place all of them at the same orphanage. His father was the sole breadwinner eking out a living as a laborer while his mother is a full time home maker.

His sad soulful eyes speak volumes of growing up in an orphanage. However, keperluan is determined to better his life by putting his effort into his studies. Keperluan has been receiving assistance from BIC since 2003 when he was merely 5 years old at Baptis orphanage. Through the years, BIC has helped to pay his school fees, and provide food and lodging. Keperluan is now in high school and hopes to fulfill his dreams of a better life and giving back to society.

“I am very happy and thankful that BIC has taken good care of me and provided me with education and knowledge “he said. “I hope BIC can continue to help me to achieve my goals become a soldier so that I can be useful person and give back to society “.

A decade ago, little 8-year-old Nurhayati was in desperate straits when she lost her father and as fate would have it, her mother died five years later. Luckily for her, the Al-Anshori Orphanage took her in. it became her home and the other orphans and care-givers became her family.

She grew up in the orphanage, receiving assistance from BIC for her school fees and basic necessities since she was 9 years old. BIC has really made a positive difference to the life of Nurhayati and she is filled with even greater hopes and dreams for her future now . in spite of having grown up in an orphanage, Nurhayati’s begin and peaceful smile belies her positive outlook, diligence and tenacity to overcome her circumstances.

The turning point came when Bank Bukopin, one of the public Banks in batam, offered Nurhayati a permanent position in their administration Department after she finished her apprenticeship at the Bank. Without the kind sponsorship and generosity of BIC, she would not have been able to graduate from high school and further her studies. Nurhayati is now majoring in accountancy in her 3rd semester at Riau island University (UNRIKA), one of public universities in Batam.

I am really thankful to BIC for all their help to children at the orphanages and hope that they will continue to be successful and provide the best they can for the orphans” Nurhayati said.  “My hopes and dreams for the future are to graduate as an accountant with flying colors and to work in one of the best public banks in Batam”.
